🎉 What to do in June in Austin
June 2, 2026 · Kelsey Bradshaw
☀️ Hello, hello! Summer is here! Every month living in Austin is a great one, but June has a particular sheen to it that only long, sunny days can provide. Let’s get into your guide for the month! 👇

Tips for a Better June
Stock up on Sunscreen
I’m sorry to be your mother about this, but you need to stock up on sunscreen if you haven’t already. No matter your age, your gender, or skin tone, you need to be wearing sunscreen, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association. Throw out your expired sunscreen from last summer, and opt for a new bottle with an SPF of at least 30 that is water-resistant. By the way, H-E-B has scented sunscreens you can try. Anyone want to smell like fruity cereal?
Be Wary of Blue-Green Algae
Warm weather means blue-green algae in Austin. You should always assume harmful algae is present on Austin waterways — just look for stagnant water with scum, film, or algae mats on the water’s surface. Harmful blue-green algae can be fatal to dogs, so make sure they don’t ingest any lake or river water this summer.
It’s Movie Season
Temperatures will only increase from here on out and that’s where movies come in. Paramount Theatre’s annual Summer Classic Film Series includes a weeklong celebration of the “Jackass” franchise, “Jaws,” and some Pride Month flicks. The prices on drinks and snacks at the Paramount aren’t too bad, either!
National Pride Month Is Happening
Austin celebrates its own Pride Month in August, but the national monthlong celebration happens in June and we’ve got plenty — dance showcases, parties, and shopping — to do.
