What To Know About the Texas Voter Suspense List
Over 1 million voters in Texas have had their voter registration flagged after local election officials raised questions about whether they still live at the addresses they're registered with.
- County officials must keep voter rolls current. Every two years, county registrars mail new voter certificates to all active voters. If those get marked as undeliverable by the U.S. Postal Service, it alerts the registrar, and the voter gets added to the suspense list. After two federal election cycles on the list, the voter registration gets canceled from voter rolls. [The Texas Tribune]
- What does this mean? Despite the alarming name, being on the suspense list does not mean you can't vote in the upcoming November election. It just means you need to update or confirm your address before the Oct. 5 voter registration deadline. [Axios Austin]
- Not sure if you're on the list? You can check your registration status online or by contacting the Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar. [VoteTexas.gov]
- In other election news: Last week, Travis County joined a federal lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's executive order requiring USPS to only deliver mail-in ballots to those deemed eligible by the state. This week, a USPS official filed a whistle blower report warning that the order could lead to a "catastrophic failure" in the mail-ballot system ahead of November's midterm elections. Ramen del Barrio Opens New, Bigger Shop
After moving out of Asian grocery store Hana World Market, the award-winning Mexican ramen shop is now open in a 2,600 square-foot location off Kramer Lane.
