Austin Public Library's downtown location was named one of 25 buildings and monuments across the U.S. that say something special about the country as it approaches its 250th anniversary. The library is “a model of the social infrastructure that Americans want and deserve,” the magazine says. [Time]
Talarico Ad To Air During World Cup
An ad for Texas U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico will air on Telemundo during every U.S. and Mexico match during the World Cup, his campaign said. The ad is in Spanish and cost more than $800,000. [The Texas Tribune]
Travis County Declares Disaster Over Screwworm
Travis County Judge Andy Brown issued a disaster declaration for the area as New World screwworm cases rise in Texas. Gillespie County, which is 80 miles away, is the closest area to Travis County with a screwworm case. [Austin American-Statesman]
- Due to a quarantine order issued by the Texas Animal Health Commission, Austin Wildlife Rescue is not currently able to accept warm-blooded animals from 10 counties in the state where New World screwworms have been reported. [Austin Wildlife Rescue]
City Launches Effort To Preserve East Austin
The East Austin Historic Research Survey is a new city project that will document historic buildings, landmarks, and community stories out of East Austin between now and next spring. The city hopes the survey will help keep the area’s history and identity alive. [CBS Austin]
