🌨️ 1 Dead in Winter Storm; Freezing Temps To Continue
The city is under an extreme cold weather warning through noon today as wind chill temperatures may be between single digits and in the teens, forecasters say. Monday temperatures will peak at around 34 degrees before dropping to 16 degrees at night. [National Weather Service]
- A man experiencing homelessness was found dead early Sunday, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said. The man likely died from hypothermia after freezing rain and sleet fell on the Austin area overnight Sunday. [City of Austin]
- Cold weather shelters will be open through Tuesday morning. Anyone needing a ride to a shelter can call 311. [City of Austin]
- Classes at Austin Community College, Austin Independent School District, and The University of Texas at Austin are all canceled on Monday, among many others. [KUT]
- More than 200 flights at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport were canceled over the weekend and more delays are expected. [KVUE]
