The new policy about who can be present on university property at The University of Texas at Austin is preventing Street Medics Austin from providing free first aid support during protests on campus. [Street Medics Austin]
🩺 Austin Nursing Home Management, Former Staff Members Indicted
Two former staff members at Renaissance Austin Assisted Living, along with the management company, have been charged in connection with the death of one of their residents during Winter Storm Uri in 2021. The grand jury's indictment included allegations of criminal negligence, according to the Travis County District Attorney's Office. [KXAN]
🪧 No More Open Primaries?
The state's Republican Party has sued Texas' Secretary of State, claiming that open primaries violate their First Amendment rights to choose party leaders. The suit alleges that "crossover voting" gives unfair influence to those outside the party. [The Texas Tribune]

🗳️ What’s the Big Deal With the Proposed Property Tax Increase?
Because of the budget deficit, the city is asking voters to increase property taxes in November to help maintain services. Former mayoral candidate Jeffery Bowen says the ballot language is misleading, however, and is suing the city. [City Cast Austin 🎧]
