Owners of popular downtown bar Cheer Up Charlies announced they raised enough money to stay open, just days after saying they would lose the Red River Street venue on Sept. 1 if they didn't pay the landlord a couple of months of owed rent. [Cheer Up Charlies]

🗑️ Austin Could Soon Have a Trash Hub

Right now, Austin’s waste collection truckers have to drive sometimes more than 30 miles to unload trash at landfills and composting sites. A new plan from Austin Resource Recovery would change that by creating a hub for trash and composting in town. [KUT]

Where Is This?

Congratulations to Jennifer H. for guessing last week’s “Where Is This?” correctly! This statue of Angelina Eberly is on Congress Avenue downtown between Sixth and Seventh streets.

Eberly alerted Austinites in 1842 that a militia party was stealing archives of the Texas Republic, which would have taken the city’s status as Texas’ capital away. Eberly fired a cannon in the middle of the night, kicking off the Archives Wars.

This week’s photo is less historical, but still iconic:
