🏗️ What The New Convention Center Could Look Like

New renderings are out for the new $1.6 billion Austin Convention Center, expected to open in late 2028. The demolition of the current convention center will begin in April, and the new center is designed to nearly double the space and include public plazas and open-air terraces. 🧑‍⚖️ Arrestees Are Finally Getting Legal Counsel

Travis County’s first appearance program, which provides a lawyer for an arrestee’s first appearance in front of a judge, is now fully-staffed. In September, commissioners opted to fund the program for $15.5 million, after years of pressure from advocates. [KUT News]

🤝 Austin Makes Conservation Deal With Landowners

The owners of the 6,600-acre Shield Ranch sold more than 200 acres in the Barton Spring Watershed to the city to become a conservation easement. The deal prevents development, which conservationists hope will protect water quality. [KXAN]
