📋 What To Know About ICE Raids in Austin
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were in Austin on Sunday carrying out what it called “enhanced target operations.” Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said ICE officials were looking to arrest “wanted violent offenders.” [Austin American-Statesman]
- Eighty-four people were arrested in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and other raids took place in San Antonio, McAllen, and the Houston area. [KVUE]
- Protesters gathered at the Texas Capitol on Sunday, saying the raids were upsetting, but not surprising. [KXAN]
- Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday sent 400 soldiers to the U.S.-Mexico border to work alongside federal agents to “enforce immigration laws.” [Office of the Governor]
- Local advocates have started offering “know your rights” trainings to educate people on what to do if ICE officials approach them. [KUT]
