September 13, 2024 · Kelsey Bradshaw
🤠 Happy Friday! If you didn’t make it to our event last night, you definitely missed out and I’m a little offended! Don’t fret though, we’ll have more events in the future and we can hang out then!
Thank you to Tecovas, our exclusive launch sponsor and Western wear favs for their support!

What's CITY Talking About?
✈️ Airport Expansion Vote Coming
Austin City Council will vote on whether or not to move forward with an $865 million project to expand Austin-Bergstrom International Airport later this month. Construction on the airport would finish in 2029. [KUT]

🎙️ Barbecue, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Does the Service Industry Need a Union?
I’m back on the City Cast Austin podcast today with my favorite co-workers, Nikki DaVaughn and Eva Ruth Moravec, talking about some news that caught our eyes this week! [City Cast Austin]
🌡️ Hot Temps Return
High temperatures in the upper 90s are back, y’all. Temperatures are expected to climb to 98 degrees every day this weekend. We had a nice go, false fall. [National Weather Service]
🏗️ Newly Available Downtown Properties Have No Height Restrictions
Two properties downtown at the intersection of Congress Avenue and West Fifth Street recently went on the market, and have unlimited height restrictions. Shiner’s Saloon currently occupies both tracts of land, but experts say the area could become home to downtown’s next big skyrise. [Austin Business Journal]

Don't Go Gently, Go In Tecovas
Our Don’t Go Gently tip for this week pays homage to our city’s vibrant and growing Mexican-American community. To celebrate Mexican Independence Day, Deis y Seis, head over to the Oswaldo Cantu Pan Am Recreation Center on Saturday for the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center’s 17th annual Viva Mexico event. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., they’ll be tons of sights and sounds to take in, from the live mariachi musicians to dance performances, and family-friendly art activities. They’ll also be a marketplace, from Frida Friday ATX, with lots of original artwork, clothes, jewelry, and gifts supporting women and BIPOC artists. Don’t go gently, go in Tecovas!
