City Cast Austin
✏️ Are school vouchers… bad?
September 9, 2024 · — Adrian González
It’s Monday! Which means we’re just a few days away from our Austin in Stereo event this Thursday. Come meet the City Cast Austin team, listen to live music, enjoy some complimentary snacks and drinks (who doesn’t love free stuff?), and maybe pick up a pair of gorgeous boots. We’ll be at the Tecovas South Congress store Sept. 12 from 5-8 p.m. 🤠

Thank you to Tecovas, our exclusive launch sponsor and Western wear favs for their support!

What's CITY Talking About?

🎙️ Texas Camping Tips
The Autumn vibes are nigh, which for some in Central Texas, means more time outdoors. Adventurer extraordinaire Pam LeBlanc has tips for where to camp, how to prepare, and why the best views are actually in the loo. [City Cast Austin 🎧]
👮 Check the Badge
A new online database that allows the public to search for police officer licenses across Texas is now live. The database includes training, compliance, and license records for police, jailers, and telecommunicators. [KXAN]
🚸 Austin Gets Millions for Pedestrian Safety
The U.S. Department of Transportation is giving the city $10.5 million to support nearly 50 new crossings and upgrades to the Living Streets Program. Improvements include flashing beacons and waiting islands, though a timeline is yet to be released. [KVUE]
🗳️ Clash Over Voter Outreach Bias
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued Travis County for hiring the firm Civic Government Solutions to identify unregistered voters, claiming the company is partisan and the county lacks the legal authority for such voter outreach. Travis County officials say they’re just trying to boost voter registration. [Austin American-Statesman]

Howdy, Austin. If you're in the market for new boots, come on by your neighborhood Tecovas Store on South Congress or at the Domain today. Stop by, grab a cold one, and shop for a new pair of boots or other quality western goods. Don't Go Gently, y'all!

Where Is It?

Congratulations to Sara H. and Stacy E. for correctly guessing our last photo trivia! We included two winners this week because it was a hard one — this painting, which is from Australia, is hanging up in the lobby at City Hall.
Onto this week’s image:

Do you know where this concrete and green jungle is? We’re looking for the specific area, not just the name of this bridge! If you think you know where this is, click the button below to take a guess and be featured in next week’s newsletter.
