What's CITY Talking About?

🎨 UMLAUF Wants To Get Bigger

The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum is campaigning to expand. Museum officials want to add sculptor Charles Umlauf and his wife Angie’s home to its campus, something the pair had wished to do before they died. The idea will go before Austin Parks and Recreation board next month. [The Austin Chronicle]

🚲 Community Center Accepting $$ for Bikes After Theft

The Lorraine “Grandma” Camacho Activity Center is now accepting money donations after 16 bikes were stolen off its East Austin property last week. The bikes were worth about $25,000. [KUT]

🤔 UT Barred From Taking Political Stances

Under a new UT System Board of Regents ruling, the University of Texas is barred from taking political stances or commenting on issues that are not pertinent to its campuses. Officials at the university can still take a stance or comment on issues. [Austin American-Statesman]

Congratulations to Kim F. for guessing last week’s “Where Is This?” segment correctly. The “You’re My Butter Half” mural is located on a building at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Alamo Street.

OK, I think this week’s segment is going to be a tough one! Anyone know where this piece of art is located?

A painting hangs on a brick wall. The bricks are light washed and the painting has lots of colors, like red and green, and swirls.
Hint: This painting is hanging inside of a building downtown. (Kelsey Bradshaw/ City Cast Austin)

If you think you know where this painting is, reply to this email with your guess to be featured in next Monday’s newsletter!

👋 Bye! I’m catching up on the news that Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw is retiring at the end of the year. McCraw came under scrutiny two years ago after saying law enforcement officials were heroes in the Uvalde Robb Elementary School shooting before a video from the incident revealed officers waited 77 minutes before confronting the shooter.
