🦠 Watch Out For Blue-Green Algae
Watershed Protection officials sprayed a clay-like material on parts of Lady Bird Lake, including Red Bud Isle, this week in an attempt to mitigate the growth of harmful blue-green algae. The algae has plagued Austin waterways since 2019 and is linked to several dog deaths. [City of Austin]
💰 Homeowner Tax Breaks Approved
People over the age of 65 and individuals with a disability will be taxed less this year after City Council members voted to raise the property tax exemption for such Austin homeowners. [KUT]
📝 UT Sues Biden Over Abortion, Gender
Two University of Texas professors are suing the Biden Administration, saying they’ll refuse to excuse class absences for elective abortions and refer to students using “they/them” pronouns. [Austin-American Statesman]
