šļø Incoming: New City Manager
It looks like T.C. Broadnax will get the job as Austinās next city manager. Heāll fill a void left 11 months ago, when City Council members fired Spencer Cronk after his handling of an ice storm in 2023. Broadnax recently resigned as city manager in Dallas, where his relationship with the Council was strained. [KUT News]

š Lady Longhorns March On
The Texas Longhorns women's basketball team will tip off against Gonzaga on Friday night in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. This will be Texasā 18th Sweet 16 appearance, but itās the first year since 2004 that the Longhorns have earned a No. 1 seed. The winner of tonightās matchup advances to the Elite Eight on Sunday. š¤ Ken Paxton, Texas Make a Deal
For nine years, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has fought felony securities fraud charges. This week, as he neared his trial date, Paxton made a deal with prosecutors to have the charges dropped. KXANās Monica Madden breaks it all down in a video on Instagram. [KUT News, KXAN/Instagram]
š¦ Goddess Gained, Girl Lost
Athena, a great horned owl that nests behind a sotol plant at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, joined the reality TV cast on Cornell Labās Bird Cams, just in time for hatching season. [Cornell Chronicle, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center]
- On another note, the screen has gone dark for the peregrine falcon known as Tower Girl, who nested atop The University of Texas at Austinās Tower. "We believe Tower Girl died several years ago," a spokeswoman for the Biodiversity Center said, and the live falcon cam now shows views of UT and the area. [UT]
